I am Peter M. Lopez, a criminal defense lawyer and family law attorney in Sweetwater, Texas.

I have represented literally hundreds of people charged with crimes or who are going through a divorce or custody battle. I have limited my law practice to criminal defense and family law so I can help people in their time of greatest need.

I have represented citizens charged with misdemeanor crimes such as driving while intoxicated (DWI/DUI), family violence, and theft. I have also represented those charged with the most serious felony offenses, including drug possession, manufacturing, and delivery, robbery, sexual assault, and murder. I have tried numerous criminal cases to a jury with exceptional results. I consider it an honor and privilege when a citizen accused of a crime puts their life in my hands.

I have also represented numerous people who have entrused me with the future of their family. I have represented men, women and children at every stage of family and matrimonial litigation including divorce, child custody cases, child support cases, paternity suits, adoptions, parental rights termination cases, and litigation involving state agencies such as Child Protective Services and the Office of the Attorney General.

If you have been charged with a crime, or, if you need a lawyer who will represent you in any area of family law, please call me for a free consultation. You may contact me online or call my office.

Abilene Mayor Cannot Support Selling Water to Tenaska

In what (in my opinion) is a surprising announcement, Abilene Mayor, Norm Archibald, announced his opposition to the City of Abilene selling water to the Tenaska Trailblazer plant planned for near Sweetwater.

I don't know what this will mean to the Abilene City Council's actions scheduled for later this year, but it certainly adds a new wrinkle to the story. A public hearing is scheduled for July 29, 2010, and anyone interested in the outcome should consider attending.

You can also view Mayor Archibald's interview with KRBC and the KTAB live report of Mayor Archibald's announcement here.

Roscoe Soon to Have Fourth Restaurant and Bar

Having grown up in Roscoe, I don't know which is more surprising: that Roscoe is soon to get its fourth restaurant, or that one of them will have a bar.

Apparently the new restaurant, The Lumber Yard (Abilene Reporter News story), will feature live music on weekends, a dance floor (there's a subject for another post altogether), outdoor seating, and a bar.

I hope it is successful.
